What is the Research Panel?
The Marvin Research Panel is a repository for all research participant data. It centralizes participant information across projects so your team can keep track of the participants you're speaking to. You can also use this information as filters in Ask AI to analyze by cohort.
What is the difference between the Participants tab and Research Panel?
Marvin automatically pulls in participant information from interviews if you've integrated your account with your calendar and webconferencing tool. You can also choose to import details such as participant name and email when you import or upload surveys and CSVs.
Within each project in Marvin, you can access all the participant information in the Participants tab.
The Research Panel centralizes the participant information across all projects, as well as any details you upload. You can access it from the left navigation menu under More research tools.
How do I add participants to the Research Panel?
There are multiple ways to add participant information to the Research Panel. The method you choose will depend on the number of participants:
Add individual participants: This is only recommended if you have to add a few participants as it is manual and time-consuming.
Add participant information in bulk: Upload a CSV with all the details.
Add participants to a project: Participants are automatically added to the Research Panel.
Add participants from Salesforce: You can integrate with Salesforce and automatically sync information across both platforms to add context from sales calls.
Add participants from Rally: Automatically sync participant information from Rally with your integration.
1. Add new participant
In the Research Panel, locate the Add new participant option and select “Add new participant”.
Fill in their name, email, phone, cohort, company, etc. and click Save.
2. Bulk upload
Select Bulk upload under Add participant. To prepare your CSV, make sure the columns in your file match the columns in your research panel.
For example,
You can also add all the participants to a cohort.
3. Add participants to a project
Every time you add new participants to a project, they will automatically be added to the Research Panel too. If the participant record already exists in the Research Panel, you can import the information to the project.
You can add participants to a project through any of these methods:
Enter details of individual participants
Upload a CSV to add multiple participants in one go: Do a bulk upload as you would for the Research Panel.
Import participants from the Research Panel to a project
You don’t need to manually add participant data to a project if it already exists in your Research Panel.
Under Add participant, choose Add from org research panel.
Search for the participants by name or use the filters to locate the information. Confirm by clicking “Import selected”.
Add speakers from a call
Every time Marvin detects a speaker or participant in a call, it automatically adds them to the Participants tab in the project as well as the Research Panel.
Add survey participants
Marvin detects the participant data in each survey and can add it to your Research Panel.
You’ll see this option while uploading and importing surveys.
4. Add participants from Salesforce
You can integrate with Salesforce to import participant information. Learn more in our help center article.
5. Add participants from Rally
You can integrate with Rally to import participant information from studies. Learn more in our help center article.
Merge participants
In case you see details of the same person more than once, you can select all the entries and merge them. This will help you to streamline the database and avoid duplicate entries.
Confirm the name, email ID, phone and cohort to retain in the merged entry before you click Merge.
How do I delete participants in bulk?
The best way to delete multiple participants in one go is to use the filters effectively. Apply filters to arrive at the list of participants you want to delete. Select all and click “Delete”.
You’ll have to confirm the deletion as it’s an irreversible step.
Access to participant data
You can choose who in your Marvin team can access data in the Research Panel.
By default, only Admins are allowed to view and edit participant details in the Research Panel.
You can choose whether you want to extend this access to Full users in Marvin as well. You may limit their access to the "Participants" tab in projects.
Best practices for building and using the research panel
Add names and email IDs while doing bulk uploads
While it is possible to upload participants in bulk without including their names, we recommend that you do add them. Not only does it improve the data quality, it also helps distinguish participants with similar email IDs or merge duplicate entries.
Add names while uploading CSVs
You can choose to anonymize surveys when you import or upload them in Marvin. However, adding the names and email addresses can add more context to their responses.
For example, you can also track their journey and experience on your product by checking if they raised support tickets. Or what kind of feedback they gave on user research calls. This can help you find other similar users too.
Filter notes by participant data in the Analyze tab
You can leverage the data in the Participants tab of each project to find relevant notes. In the Analyze tab, you’ll see an option to filter by name, email address or phone number. Use these to see notes from calls with those participants
