How can I use Marvin to make auto notes?
Marvin can take notes for you in two ways:
On a transcript or file
Create auto notes for an entire project
On a call
This article includes some tips to help you optimize note-taking in each situation.
On a transcript or file
You can make notes on each file you upload or record with Marvin. Go to the file in your project to access the Annotation tool.
Click the three dots on the notes panel and select “Create auto-notes”.
Select the discussion guide Marvin should refer to. You also have the option to use none of the listed guides.
Marvin will analyze the entire file and make notes of all the key moments or information.
You also have control over identifying the call participants. By default, Marvin will detect them automatically based on their profile on the web conferencing tool. You can also manually select the call participants from the drop down menu.
Best practices
To get the best results, please use a discussion guide. If your project has multiple discussion guides and you want to change the one used for this call, go to the Q/As tab. Select the discussion guide from the drop down menu.
Tailoring your interviews according to the discussion guide can help with notetaking too. Marvin can make extremely accurate auto notes from the transcript if you ask questions exactly how you phrased them on the guide.
For example, explicitly mention the product, feature or use case in the questions you draw up. If you’re asking a user about Product X, instead of asking “What do you like best about it?”, phrase your questions as, “What do you like best about Product X?”
This gives Marvin more context to make notes for you. Marvin can still recognize what a participant means by “this”, “that” or “it”, but with more direction, you’ll have better notes.
Getting specific answers to your questions will also help with note-taking. Marvin may give less weight to generic answers or descriptions.
Regenerating notes
Marvin can redo notes if you want more inputs or different answers. Choose between adding more notes to the existing ones, or have Marvin create a fresh set of notes.
Create auto notes for an entire project
You have an option to automatically create notes for each file when it is added to a project.
Configure this from project settings. When this is switched on, you don’t need to go to each file and create auto notes. Marvin will automate that step for you as soon as the file is processed.
On a call
Type notes in real time on the Live Notes page when you record any meeting with Marvin. You’ll even see options to add labels to notes and tag parts of the call to specific questions in your discussion guide.
If you prefer to avoid typing and focus on the conversation, let Marvin make notes for you automatically. Press “Return” and Marvin will create an auto note for that moment in the call.
To create a quote of that timestamp, press “Command/Ctrl” + “Return”
