With MCP write-access, you can create projects, discussion guides, and Insight reports in Marvin directly from tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Figma Make, and Cursor.
Marvin MCP's read tools surface customer knowledge where you work. Once you analyze and compile an answer, you can add it to an Insight report or project in Marvin without leaving your tool.
What kinds of data can I add to Marvin from AI tools?
With Marvin MCP’s write tools, you can do the following:
Create a new project: Add files you can use to set up new studies
Add or edit a project overview: Update the project overview to add more context, which can also be used to create discussion guides.
Create a discussion guide: Draft a discussion guide and review it before you add it to a project.
Publish an Insight: Create a report with tables, callouts, images, embeds and citations, and publish it to Marvin.
How do I add data to Marvin from AI tools?
Before you can share data, you must grant your tool write access. If you’ve already connected, you must disconnect Marvin from your MCP connectors and then reconnect.
For example, when you connect to Claude, you must check the box against "Perform actions on your behalf within your permission level" to grant it write access.
Once you're connected, you can prompt the write actions directly from your tool.
Let’s consider an example. We looked at the customer knowledge in our repository to predict product design trends for 2027.
First, we surfaced insights from Marvin. The MCP read tools ran a repository-wide search to identify relevant projects, and then search within them to find relevant insights.
We then asked Claude to pull in predictions from experts, reports, agencies, etc., across the internet. Once we’d verified and sorted the data to keep, we prompted Claude to create an Insight report in Marvin.
You’ll need to grant access to the List Projects tool to find your project in Marvin. You can choose between Allow once or Always allow. If you Deny permission, your AI tool will not be able to access the list of projects through the Marvin MCP connector.
While creating your own report, remember to:
Specify the project where you want to add the report
Mention share permissions. To collaborate with team members in Marvin or edit further, create a shared or private draft. To share your work with everyone, publish the report. By default, Marvin will create a private draft if you don’t specify.
Add instructions to visualize data as graphs, quotes, tables, callouts, images, and include citations.
Review the report before you add it to Marvin
You’ll need to grant permission for each tool the first time it is run. A prompt to create the report will trigger the Create Insight tool.
Once the report is ready, the tool will add it to the specified project. You can open the Insight in Marvin by clicking the link in the chat.
You can view, edit, leave comments, and publish the report in Marvin. Or you can update the report from Claude.
Next, we prompted in Claude to create a discussion guide based on the report, so we could interview designers and PMs to ask them about the predicted trends.
It used the Generate Discussion Guide tool to draw up a list of questions.
While creating your discussion guide, remember to:
Add details about the study and the people you intend to interview
Ask the AI to check the project overview to understand the objectives
Pull in additional context from Marvin and external sources
Review and iterate before you finalize the questions
Once you’ve reviewed the discussion guide, prompt your tool to save it in Marvin. You can access it from the link in your chat or find it in your project.
How do I safeguard existing data in Marvin?
All permissions from Marvin transfer over to your tools. You can only add data or make changes to projects to which you already have access.
All new projects and Insights you create via MCP are private by default. They are not shared with other Marvin users until you explicitly add an instruction to publish an Insight or share the project with Admins/editors/all users. You can also control these settings from Marvin. You have complete control over how and when data is shared with users.
An AI tool cannot delete data by itself. You must clearly mention you want to edit or update a project overview, discussion guide or Insight before the AI makes the change.
