Why should I connect Marvin to other tools?
Access customer understanding from Marvin without leaving your workspace
You can surface knowledge from Marvin to learn about customer requirements, pain points, feedback, and more. Include instructions to use Marvin's Ask AI to get more detailed results. It scans all the data to which you have access to surface patterns, themes, and insights. You'll see cited answers with in-line citations so you can access the file or published insight in Marvin for more details.
With insights from Marvin MCP, you can validate designs, messaging, prototypes, and roadmaps. Ground your work in user feedback at every step so you can build with confidence.
Work in Marvin from your AI tools
With write access, you can create new studies and reports in Marvin directly from your AI tools. You can create a project, discussion guide, or report, and even add/edit a project overview.
Each user must individually grant access to a tool to make changes in Marvin. You can also choose to enable read-only access for any tool.
Who can connect to Marvin's MCP Server?
All users on Enterprise plans can individually connect their tools to Marvin.
However, Admins may choose to disable this for their Marvin team. In case you're unable to connect, please contact your team Admin(s).
Admins can manage this from Settings > Developer > Enable MCP
Marvin authorizes the login for each user through OAuth.
How do I connect to Marvin’s MCP server?
Navigate to the Connectors section in your MCP client tool.
Under the Custom Connectors option, create a new connector named “Marvin”.
If your Marvin account is on app.heymarvin.com, copy and paste this MCP server URL
https://mcp.heymarvin.com
If your account is on app.eu.heymarvin.com, copy and paste
https://mcp-eu.heymarvin.com
Label the server “Marvin”.
Accept the OAuth authorization request.
Configure the available tools based on your preferences. We are continuously working to add more relevant tooling capabilities, so please watch this space for updates.
If you're using a tool's desktop app to connect, you'll be redirected to a browser to authorize login. Once it is complete, please return to the app to continue the setup.
You can now access and use Marvin data to which you already have access, directly from your tools.
How do I surface data from Marvin in AI tools?
Once you've added Marvin as a connector, enable it while prompting. You can use Marvin MCP's read and write tools to pull from your team's customer knowledge and run studies in Marvin from your AI platform.
When you query with Marvin MCP, it will use the Standard mode in Ask AI by default. In Standard mode, explorer agents scan all the data to which you have access to find insights and give an in-depth answer. As it runs iterations to generate the answer, each query may take 2–4 minutes.
If you would like to prioritize speed over depth, prompt the tool to run Ask AI in Fast mode.
Answers in MCP will:
Give more weight to Marvin data from the last 6 months, unless you specify that you want to consider older data.
Use the documents and context added to your team's Organizational Memory in Marvin.
Prioritize data from respondents, unless you specify a focus on data from internal team members.
How do I verify the insights from Marvin?
Responses in every tool will include clickable citations that take you to the exact source in Marvin. You'll see citations as inline links in the text, like [link to insight] or [link to transcript].
You can verify the insights and go into more detail as you explore the source of the information.
Access to data
You only see insights and answers based on the research that is shared with you in Marvin. Admins need to manage permissions in Marvin to decide which research should be accessible to everyone and which confidential data to safeguard.
FAQs
Which MCP clients are supported?
You can connect all clients that support OAuth authentication and Streamable HTTP. These include Claude, Figma Make, ChatGPT, Cursor, Glean, and more
If you’re based outside the EU, connect to https://mcp.heymarvin.com. Connect to https://mcp-eu.heymarvin.com if you’re in the EU.
Can I set up a custom integration with Marvin's MCP server?
Yes, you can set up custom integrations with the Marvin MCP server. For example, a local bridge service can authenticate via the same OAuth process.
However, every user must complete the OAuth authentication individually. This ensures users can only access data from projects shared with them in Marvin.
How do I verify the results for each query?
Marvin generates answers based on the information available to you in the repository. Click on the linked citations to check and verify the information in Marvin.
What data can the AI access?
The AI agent authenticates as you via OAuth. You can also access the data you have permission to view in Marvin. The AI agent cannot access other users' data.
Is my research data sent to the AI model?
Yes, when you ask the AI to analyze a transcript or search your data, the content is sent to the AI model as part of the conversation. It is treated as a part of the chat. Review your AI provider's data policies (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI) for how they handle conversation data.
For example, if you don't want to Anthropic to use your data to train their models, toggle off “Help Improve Claude”. You will need to set preferences for each connector.
Can I add data from my AI tool to Marvin?
Yes, you can use the Marvin MCP write tools to create a new project, add/edit a project overview, create a discussion guide, and publish an Insight report.
Can the AI delete data in Marvin?
AI tools cannot make changes to data in Marvin unless you grant them write access and specifically prompt it to make changes. You may choose to limit the MCP connection to read-only access.
The Marvin MCP write tools only allow edits to project overviews. New projects, discussion guides, and Insight reports only add new data. They do not edit or overwrite existing data in Marvin.
Why did the AI only return 20 search results?
Search defaults to 20 results per page to keep responses fast and focused. You can ask for more (up to 100) or say "show me the next page" to paginate the results.
Why do I see an error message when I try to use Marvin tools?
Try removing the MCP server from your AI client and reconnecting it. This refreshes the connection and re-authenticates your session, which resolves most issues.
Can I access insights from Marvin in Visual Studio?
You may see some empty results in Visual Studio while trying to pull information from Marvin. We're working to fix this as soon as possible.
