Learn more about Microsoft single sign-on and how it works on Marvin

Updated over a week ago

How do I use Microsoft single sign-on?

You can use your Microsoft account* to sign up and login to Marvin. You’ll see the single sign-on option (SSO) on the Marvin home page. Enter your Microsoft account credentials to login.

*Only users on Standard and Enterprise plans can use their Microsoft SSO to sign up and log in to Marvin.

How it works

Marvin uses the Azure Active Directory B2C (Azure AD B2C) implementation of OpenID Connect. We support disabling email/password and MFA via email.

When you choose the Microsoft SSO option, the browser redirects to Azure AD. It provides its own client ID, which has been registered in Azure AD.

When you successfully authenticate against Azure AD with your Microsoft credentials, the provider redirects the browser to the URL on the web server.

Which data does Marvin access?

You’ll be prompted to grant permissions the first time you log in.

OpenID Connect generates an access token and an ID token, which can be sent to an application to prove your identity. The ID token is a JSON Web Token (JWT) and contains information about the authenticated user.

Marvin will access your profile data

  • User email

  • User name

  • User photo

If you connect to Marvin’s Outlook integration, Marvin will access the following calendar information

  • User Calendar read permission

Our Outlook integration is established via OAuth. Marvin uses this to access upcoming meetings and join calls automatically if configured to do so. Our integration requires the “Calendars.Read” permission, which allows Marvin to read events in your calendar.

Approval

If you grant permissions to Marvin, your Microsoft team's admin will receive a notification. They will have to approve the request.

Once it’s approved, you can use Microsoft SSO to access Marvin.
