Keep reading to learn more about publishing Insights, collaborating on them with teammates and more.

How to create an Insight

To get started on an Insight, go to the “Insights & Playlists” tab in your project.

You’ll see an option to "Add new Insight" in the top toolbar. You can create a new Insight, import a report from a drive, or upload an existing document.

If you don't have any existing Insights in the project, you'll see this screen.

Pick a blank document or use a template. You'll see "Pre-made template" provided by Marvin or a "Team template" that someone in your team created. Templates are a handy way to make standardized reports across your team.

Add information to your Insight

Let's discover what kind of data you can add to your Insights.

Text

Add text to your report as block quotes, tables or simple paragraphs. Marvin offers a whole range of text markup options, including text highlighting, making a list or checklist, and adding hyperlinks.

You can also use the in-built AI Writer to help you refine and shorten your writing. Just select any text and click AI Writer. Select "Polish text" to turn raw research outcomes into crisp, stakeholder-ready points. Or "Make it short" to make a point more succinct. Present outcomes clearly, without losing nuance.

You'll also find the AI writer in the toolbar on the top.

Marvin will automatically create and update the table of contents for the Insight according to the headings you use.

Clips and playlists

Adding videos or a collection of clips to your report elevates the voice of users. Stakeholders reading the report can hear the exact sentiment of users and are more likely to retain the feedback.

Head over to “Embed” to add a note or playlist from your repository.

Add the link to the note or playlist to embed it in the report.

When you add a note, you can choose to add just the transcript text, just the video or a combination.

AI analysis

Don’t forget to add your work from Analyze, Cross-project Analysis, Auto Analysis and Discover Research to reports.

Every time you use Marvin AI’s to analyze your data, you’ll see an option to “Add to Insight”. It’ll be marked with a light bulb icon on each page. You can add to a new or existing Insight.

Use this feature to add quotes, Q/A tables and thematic analysis from Ask AI and Auto Analysis. You can search and scroll within the table to manage a large volume of data.

Adding analysis from all these sources is the best and quickest way to make your reports comprehensive. Most importantly, it’s the easiest way to share useful insights in your research with the rest of your team.

Citations

Use Marvin’s citation feature to easily add sources for all the information in your report. You can link back to exact notes, clips and documents in your repository by just adding the link.

Design your Insight

Use the range of editing features to make your report readable and attractive.

Header

Set the tone for your research report or add your company logo with a cover image. You can add it while editing your report or when you publish it. Hover at the top of the report, just below the toolbar and select "Add cover image".

You have three options to choose an image:

  1. Upload an image of your choice

Make sure your image complies with these guidelines:

Dimensions: Should ideally by wider than 1500 px

Size: Must be smaller than 5 mb

Format: Must be a .jpeg or .png file

You’ll also be able to read these guidelines while uploading.

  2. Choose one from the Marvin gallery

  3. Generate an image using AI (you'll see this option when you publish the Insight or if you replace the header)

You can choose which portion of the generated image you want to use. Regenerate if you want to see more options.

Images and GIFs

Use the toolbar to upload images from your computer. Or say it better with a GIF.

Tables, callouts and block quotes

Use the block quote formatting option to highlight quotes from customers. It’s a quick and simple way to make the quotes stand out and also standardize the format.

Select “Insert Callout” and choose between the three designs. These boxes are extremely effective at drawing the reader’s attention to key information in your report. To change the color of the callout, hover over it till you see the three dots. From the three dots menu, you can change the style and color, or remove the callout.

Graphs

Marvin gives you the option to add graphs to Insights from surveys and the Analyze tab. It’s a great way to visually present a large volume of research notes.

You’ll also be able to choose whether you want to show the labels in the segmentation. Pick a preset color scheme or even create your own.

Save as template

If you want other reports to be created with the same format, elements and color scheme, you can save the report as a template.

Your entire Marvin team will be able to access this template. To rename or delete a template, go to “Templates” in the navigation bar on the home page.

Collaborate on Insights

Creating a report with other team members? Anyone can edit the Insight if they have access to the project.

You can also leave comments for each other on insights. Tag team members with “@” to notify them. You can even use GIFs in comments to let them know how you feel about a particular section or sentence.

Share Insights

This is crucial step of the process to make sure your research can be used by everyone in your company.

Publish or share an Insight with others

After you’re done creating the report, don’t forget to share it with the rest of your team. Either “Publish Insight” or change the status from the top navigation bar.

Here's what each status means:

Private draft

  • Only visible to the creator, not shared with others

  • Ideal for personal notes, brainstorming, or incomplete work

Shared draft

  • Accessible to other project members

  • Facilitates collaboration and feedback among project members

Published

  • Visible to all team members. Often linked to Research Areas for easy discovery

  • Represents finalized and approved Insights

When you publish the Insight, remember to add a title, description, cover image, and file tags and research areas for discoverability. You can also generate an AI presentation of the Insight from this page.

To edit these details for an already published Insight, just head to the report and select "Publish Insight" in the toolbar to access this page.

AI presentations of Insights

Marvin automatically creates an AI-generated presentation of every Insight you and your team publish.

You'll see the information in the report converted to slides and audio summaries. We designed this feature to make it easier for users to consume research audio visually. They can listen to the report in the background while they continue to work in Marvin.

Add Insights to Research Areas

You can help your team discover this report more easily in search and Ask AI when you add the right file tags to it. When people filter by file tags, Marvin will be sure to include the report if they have access to it.

Add the Insight to all the relevant Research Areas. Think of all the topics and themes covered in the report and select those from the list. People consuming research in the Discover Research tab will be able to find it more easily.

You can add these while creating the Insight or when you publish it. You may collapse this menu on the Insight.

To share the report as a PDF, download the Insight. You can choose to download specific pages as well.

Add to Jira task

You can attach an Insight to a Jira ticket to provide more information and turn insights into action items.

This is also an effective way to share research with teammates who aren't on Marvin but have access to Jira.

Just look for the Jira icon in the top right corner of the Insight. Add details as you would for other Jira tickets. Marvin will automatically attach the report to it.

You can attach private, shared, and published Insights.

Change the date of an Insight

Once you're done creating your report, you can choose a custom file date. By default, Marvin will attribute the date when you created or uploaded the document. You can choose a different date to categorize the report correctly and make it more discoverable.

You can use this to surface the right Insights when a user applies time filters on Ask AI.
