Upload and annotate PDFs and PPTs

Marvin supports various file formats, including PDFs and PPTs (which are converted to PDFs). It's a great way to add secondary research to your project and repository. Similar to other files, you can add notes, file tags, labels, etc., and run AI analysis.

Navigate to the project to which you want to add these files from Home or Projects. Click Add new files and then select Upload files.

You can add notes to text as well as images in the PDF. Just toggle between the two in the toolbar at the top.

When you highlight any text, the note box will open up.

Similarly, select and drag any part of a page to select the image. You'll be able to type your note in the box that opens.

Or, you can create auto-notes for the document. Marvin will consider the text as well images in the PDF while making notes. Select Create auto-notes from the top toolbar.

You may select a discussion guide in the project that you want Marvin to consider while evaluating the text. It will map the content to the guide questions to create notes. You can also choose to "Use no guides".

Marvin can also attach existing labels in the project to the auto-notes. It will not create any new labels during the process. Select whether you want to enable this, and click "Create notes" to proceed.

You have access to the same AI analysis features on PDFs as on other files. Marvin will create a summary, key takeaways, pain points, etc. You can also use Ask AI on the PDF.

Marvin will include information from charts, graphs, and images in the analysis. This is a great way to include quantitative data in your research.

You can also upload PDFs as Insight reports. In your project, navigate to Insights under Reporting. Select Add new Insight > Upload reports & documents.

Marvin will help you publish the Insight as you upload the file. We recommend you complete this step to make it available to other users with access to the project. Until you publish, it will remain private to you.

To publish the Insight and make it discoverable, add a title, and choose file tags and Research areas.

You can also add comments to the PDF in the Insight by highlighting blocks of text.
