How do I import Dscout diary and media studies?

To begin, download the data from the diary study or media survey. In Dscout, navigate to the "Responses" tab of your media survey or the "Entries" tab of your diary study.

Click the "Export mission data" or "Export data" button in the top right corner. You'll see the export modal open up.

On the "Basic" tab of the export modal, download both Entry data (CSV) and Full session recordings (ZIP).

Note: Exports may take some time depending on the amount of data in your study. A progress modal will be displayed when your export is ready. Click "Download" in the modal to download your files.

Now, head over to Marvin to upload the files. Navigate to your project and click “Add new files” in the toolbar. Click “Unmoderated research” and select “Dscout”.

Navigate to your project and click “Add new files”. Select “Unmoderated research” from the list and then click “Dscout”.

Select the type of study you want to upload.

Upload the CSV file with the entry data in the indicated field. Separately upload the ZIP files containing the photos and videos.

Note: If your Dscout export is split into multiple files, be sure to select them all when choosing which files you want to import into Marvin.

Click “Upload” to proceed.

Marvin will import all the questions in the study by default. Deselect the questions you want to leave out. Click “Import x/y columns” to proceed.

You’ll see a summary of the import, specifying the number of responses and columns. Marvin auto detects the column that contains the names of respondents. Select “Confirm import” to complete the upload. If you need your selection, you can go back.

Once the upload is complete, you’ll see the Dscout study in your project, like any other file.

Click the file to view all the data. Marvin will identify whether a question is multiple choice, written response, rating, image response or video response. You’ll see a distinct symbol for each type of question.

Note: It is not currently possible to import card sort questions from Dscout into HeyMarvin.

In the “Summary” tab, you’ll see all responses categorized by question. Click on any question in the right panel to see the answers on the left. Below, you can see an example of how image responses are shown.

Questions may contain video responses as well. Marvin will add a tag for you to easily identify them. To watch the video, click the answer.

Play the video and/or read the transcript in the window that opens up. Close the response to return to the user study.

You can switch to the “Individual respondents” tab to see answers organized by participant. Or view all answers in one table in the “Responses” tab.

In each tab, you can search for questions and use any criteria to filter responses. To gain insights from user studies, type your queries into the Ask AI bar. Marvin can help you summarize large sets of data, identify trends, themes, similarities, and more.
